My hometown is Kampong Gajah, Perak. It is located
at middle of Perak. From the map Kampong Gajah is located
at Pasir Salak is which is one of historical place in Perak.
Pasir Salak situated approximately 70 km from ipoh,
in central Perak state. The town consists of mainly ethnic
malays, primarily of acheh, bugis, jawa and rawa descent.
Up to this day, Pasir Salak has managed to maintain much
of its traditions and customary structures. Among are the famed 'rumah kutai', or traditional Perak malay 'kutai' houses. Rumah kutai can still be seen along the banks of the Perak river. The design and construction of these houses are unique and beauty, rarely seen elsewhere. Pasir Salak is also well-known for its durians and other exotic local fruits.
The area has a long history of important and memorable events, particularly of early malay opposition to the british colonial administration. This opposite was highlighted in the assasination of the british resident james w.w. Birch in 1875. At Pasir Salak, the fight against the colonialists was led by well-known malay warriors datuk sagor and datuk maharaja lela, symbolic heroes of the early uprising againts oppression. The killing of mr. Birch led to open warfare between the malays and the colonial administration. The bravery of the malays was indicative of the strong 'warriors' spirit' with which they pitted themselves against the british army. It is some of history of Pasir Salak. Picture below show what are there in Pasir Salak.
